Introduction

In this chapter, you will learn some basic forms of surveys that you can find on the internet.

Explanation

Anna noticed that a student had published a form that would help her with the research for her Master’s thesis. Anna would like to help, but she does not know how to fill out the form or if it is safe. Let’s take a closer look at this case.

Facebook – Creating and fulfilling surveys

Facebook users often create funny surveys or surveys related to a specific fandom*. They usually create them for fun or to check other users’ opinions, sometimes also to choose the name for the group, if they give a different name to the group every month.

*Fandom is a very important term on the internet. It means a group of fans of something. For example, there can be a Titanic fandom or a very popular Harry Potter fandom. In such groups, members share their thoughts, opinions or even “fanarts” (art created by fans) *

Those are very simple surveys with one question only and no wrong answers. The creator may click the option that allows everyone to add their own options to the survey.

How to create a survey? That is very simple!

When you visit a group, click this icon at the top of the webpage:

Now you can write your question → below in the indicated places, add options that the others can choose → Then click “publish” at the bottom → You did it!

But how do you add your answer to the survey? It is even simpler!

Test it here

And that is all! One click and done 😀

Google – creating and fulfilling forms

Google Forms are more complicated and extensive. They also offer an option to prepare tests.

See this short presentation to learn the most important functions.

We hope it was not too hard.

To fill out the form, simply click the chosen options or write your thoughts in the indicated spaces.

Remember that if you see this “*” – it means that you must give an answer here. If you don’t see it, that means you do not have to give an answer at this point.

How to identify safe forms and petitions?

How? There is one rule – Safety first! Ask yourself some questions before filling in forms and petitions.

Petitions – Do I know this institution? Can I verify the person sharing the petition? Can I confirm with this institution that this person works for them? Is this institution reliable?

Forms – Is there any supportive institution? Why was this form shared? Who shared that? Do they want to get my personal information?

Let’s check if you would be safe when filling in forms and petitions.

Summary

M5-U3-L1-F Satisfied Anna

Well done! In this lesson, you learnt how to create and fill out the surveys on Facebook and Google Forms. Thanks to this, you can actively participate online, help others and learn about other users’ preferences. If you plan to create any content in the future, it is also a good way of communication and cooperation with Internet users 😀
