Introduction

In this chapter, you will learn what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is and how it can be used. You will learn about the benefits and dangers of AI usage, as well as how to use AI effectively for beginners. This will help you stay safe on the internet and create more interesting content (and have some fun).

Explanation

Anna has heard about Artificial Intelligence (AI), and she must admit that she is a little bit afraid of it and how it can change the future. That is why she decided to learn more and discover whether her fears are justified.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

In brief, Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computers and systems that are programmed to learn and create.

*Why learn? Imagine that AI is a student with basic knowledge, and you are the teacher who provides additional information. AI learns from its creators and users. The more you use AI, the more it learns about you, including your views, preferences, and writing style, and it adapts to your needs.*

Do you watch films online? If so, then I guess the website recommended some films for you. At the beginning, the recommendation was based on popularity; later, it was based on what you prefer to watch – it is also AI.

 Watch a short presentation to learn about the tools that use AI and the possibilities available to you as a beginner.

By the way, Anna, our companion in this module, was also created by the Artificial Intelligence 😀

Artificial Intelligence – Pros and Cons

You already know what AI is and what you can use it for. But what about all the doubts? Do another task to discover opportunities and dangers related to artificial intelligence.

Have you noticed how many benefits there are? AI is our chance, but we cannot forget about morality, and we should not rely only on AI – we can treat it as a simplifier (like a washing machine, which helps but does not do everything for us).

Identifying AI Content

You already know that if someone leaves the comment “AI” under a picture or video, it means the content does not show real people or events. But what to do when there are no comments?

Here are some tips that may help you identify AI content:

  • AI have some problems with reality – search for anomalies
    Does somebody have weird hands, three arms, or eat pizza from its front? AI!
  • If there is a description, some parts of it may not match the described pictures
    Does Julia have her 12th birthday, but in the picture, we can see an adult woman with “40” on her birthday cake? AI!
  • If it is a video, it can present unrealistic situations and an elongated body when something or someone is in motion
    Is it a group of bunnies jumping on a trampoline? AI!(1)
  • Lip movement may not match the words
  • Colours usually will be more vivid, and the background will be faded at the same time. Sometimes the shadows do not match the picture;
  • Everything may be too perfect even for a professional photo session;

(1)For some time, it was a popular video. You can test your abilities gained in Module 1 and try to find it on the Internet 😀

Was it easy to identify AI? And the solution is: in each pair of pictures, it was always the first picture that was AI-generated.

Well done! In this lesson, you learnt what AI is – including some tools and websites that use it. You also know how AI can be used.

Remember that AI may seem friendly, but it is not a living being and cannot be treated as a friend, specialist or medical practitioner – it provides you with the information you need and want to learn, not the facts and expertise. In case of any health problems, for example, visit a specialist, do not ask AI 😀
